RED SEA :: IMPORTANT INFO

Activities
There are numerous activities in and around the Red Sea that cater to almost every taste and skill level. Water and land sports are abundant and the possibilities are almost endless.

The Red Sea coastline is filled with operators that offer a wide range of water sports suitable for any age.

If you are a novice, many Red Sea resorts offer beginning classes in most water activities. You can learn how to dive, water ski, windsurf or sail - to name a few. If you are an experienced sportsperson, you will find all the tools you need to enjoy the sport of your choice. As well, many Red Sea operators offer families the unique opportunity to enjoy banana boat, kayaking, intertube riding or glass bottom boat.

In addition, many resorts offer land sports, such as volleyball, tennis, squash or golf. If you are more inclined towards activities revolving around the land, there are many ways for you to explore the areas around the Red Sea. If you are interested in exploring the desert, you can choose your mode of transportation: foot, camel, jeep, quad runner.

Entertainment
With each year the entertainment industry in the Red Sea only gets better. In the main Red Sea cities of Sharm el Sheikh and Hurghada you can find many ways to be entertained by live concerts by local or European artists, dancing, shows, casinos, racing, art centres, festivals, museums, shopping and sporting events.

Although nightlife varies from city to city, the major resort cities of Sharm and Hurghada offer a wide array of bars, clubs and restaurants suitable for anyone from the diver to the diva.

In the remainder of the Red Sea cities, the nightlife is more subdued, but you can usually find at least some hotel bar or disco that has the potential for something interesting. However, nothing beats the entertainment of sitting under the stars, watching the moon with the possibility of an evening swim in the Red Sea.

Marine Safety
In order to save the Red Sea marine environment, do not touch anything underwater. It is advisable to be familiar with the underwater environment in order to avoid injury. In the event of an accident, please seek immediate medical advice.

Shopping
Egypt is renowned for many exotic items unavailable anywhere else. You will find a large selection of perfumed oils, cotton items, carpets, wall hangings, alabaster carvings, papyrus, incense, herbs and cartouches. Egypt is equally as famous for inexpensive, high quality gold and silver products.

Red Sea cities are especially superb for shopping because of the wealth of Bedouin handicrafts, baskets, rugs, pillowcases, cushions and jewelry. Bedouin crafts make great gifts and also help support the local Bedouin culture.

Shops in the majority of the Red Sea cities are open seven days a week, from 11:00 am until late night. Some shops may be closed from noon to two on Fridays.

Bargaining is an art. If you think you're not getting the right price don't be afraid to walk out the door. Quickly, you will find out if the salesman is willing to bargain. Worst-case scenario, you can go back later and pay the price offered. Hopefully, it is not the same salesman.
